Extra-Curricular Activities
Here at Monkey Puzzle Kingston we are proud to offer 4 extra-curricular activities per week for our children that attend the nursery. The activities that we are currently running are:
Joe Jingles
This musical session with the added excitement of puppets take place every Tuesday. This session is just for the babies and toddlers. It is an exciting, fun and active session that the children really look forward to each week. They learn new songs and jingles which includes learning Makaton and actions for the songs. Joe Jingles is very animated along with her puppet she really gets the children going, dancing their little bodies to the beat! The children get to experiment with new instruments learning to play to the rhythm and beat of the music.
Sports for Kids
Every Wednesday the children have a session with our fabulous Coach Keith. Every term the Coach works on a different sport with the children from rugby to yoga etc. This term the children are doing football. This is a physically active session from start to finish where the children learn new skills, learn to follow instruction and direction, learn to work as team and best of all have lots of sporty fun!
The skills that the children learn from this session are vital skills to gain in their early years. Providing the children with physical activity is a great thing to be able to do especially in the day and age where technology has made children so physically inactive. We also have a great large green space where the children are not restricted to get their full potential out of which ever sport they are taking part in.
DIDI Dance
Every Thursday the children attend a dance class within the setting. This a great fun session that the children thoroughly enjoy. It’s a physical work out that even gets the staff’s heart rate racing! The children learn a new dance routine every term which focuses on a different genre dance. This term the children have been learning a ‘Hip Hop’ routine, which incorporated break dancing moves, bouncing to the beat and moving to the rhythm. Through dance the children are learning to express themselves, building confidence, learning to focus and concentrate and last but not least follow direction and instructions.
Spanish
On Thursdays the children are getting to grips with learning a new language. This is taught by one of our very own early years educators. During this 30 minute session the children get a great educational experience. They are learning the Spanish language through song, games and visuals. This is a great interactive way of learning for the child where they are physically mentally stimulated learning phrases letters and numbers, giving them the tools to build the foundations of learning a new language.
